ANNUAL SHARE THE WARMTH CAMPAIGN
concludes this coming Sunday 12/8 with hand out day in Philadelphia
This coming Sunday, December 8th is our Share The Warmth service day. We will be taking all of our winter apparel donations down to Philadelphia to be handed out as part of our service project.
We will meet in the Parish Hall following the 9:30 service. We will gather our donations and head over to the North Wales train station to catch the 11:44 am train to Center City. We plan to walk down market street and through center city while passing out donations. Cheryl and I have our route planned, as we know what areas we have had the most success handing out donations in the past few years. We also used scarves to tie sets of gloves and hats to the trees in the parks and areas frequented by the homeless in previous years, so we will be doing the same again this year. The areas we will be in are all safe, public places with lots of people there. It’s always busy with the Christmas Village set up in Center City and there are lots of people shopping. Handing out donations while we’re walking gives us a lot of opportunities to talk to people, which I think makes much more of an impact on our kids. Our goal is to have personal interaction with those we are serving and making sure our donations go right into the hands of those in need.
We typically finish up mid to late afternoon and I’ll buy the kids a late lunch when we finish before we take the train back home. The trains run hourly at 3:04pm, 4:04pm, 5:04pm, etc. We will most likely aim to catch the 4:04pm train back, but we will keep in touch during the day to let our parents know how we are doing.
Please contact me David Reichley or the church office to let us know if your teen will be joining us Sunday so that we can plan accordingly. Feel free to reach out with any questions you may have.
