A Look Back at Our Youth of Messiah Summer Mission Trip
Updated: Sep 7, 2021
Here's a bit about what we did each week during our local mission trip!

Monday - Mitzvah Circle, Norristown

On Monday our group spent the day serving at Mitzvah Circle in Norristown. We put together packages of clothing, toys, books, and personal care items. Everything we packed was hand picked by our teens to fill the specific sizes and needs of each family. The organization served approximately 47,000 families in both 2019 and 2020. During the afternoon we helped to sort the enormous amount of incoming donations.
Tuesday - Aim High Studio, Fairview Village

We started our day by taking a trip to Aim High Studio in the morning. On our way, we stopped by Shirt & Ink to pick up 8 boxes of clothing that were being donated to Aim High. The owner of Aim High Studio, Aimee, told our group about her yoga studio and how they are serving families in the area through clothing and food donations. Most of the ground floor at Aim High is filled with these donations that are available to families in the community. We warmed up with a boxing class in the studio upstairs, then helped to sort, organize, and deliver donations.
Wednesday - Belfry Bargains, Lower Gwynedd

On Wednesday we were working a little closer to home at Belfry Bargains. Our teens got to learn a little more about this amazing shop and it’s enduring mission of outreach. Belfry typically donates between $3,000 - $4,000 every month to organizations both local and international. The revenue created by Belfry is only used for the purpose of outreach. Our teens worked on organizing bookshelves, sorting and tagging clothing, pricing shelves of items for sale, power washing donation bins outside, and a bit of landscaping and mulching.
Thursday - JCHAI, Bryn Mawr

On Thursday we took a trip over to Bryn Mawr to volunteer at Judith Creed Horizons For Achieving Independence. This amazing organization supports adults with developmental disabilities by providing housing for independent living. They also teach individuals necessary skills for employment. We were able to check out their newest facility while helping to clean and organize after their annual fundraiser event. For the second half of the day we joined some residents for lunch and put together care packages. After we were finished packing our groups sat down together and wrote letters to the package recipients.
Friday - River Tubing
To wrap up our week of hard work our group took a trip tubing down the Delaware River!
