Church School Lesson for Home: Fishers of Men

Dear friends in Christ- Here is our lesson from Sunday, January 24 in case you were not able to join us on Google Meets. Children will need their Church School journals or any piece of paper and crayons.
New and Goods: Take turns sharing a highlight from the previous week.
Opening Prayer:
Dear God,
Thank you for bringing us together today.
Help us to open our hearts to your words and learn how to be fishers of men.
In Jesus’ name we pray, Amen.
Bible Story: Mark 1:14-20
Jesus Announces the Good News
14 After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. 15 “The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!”
Jesus Calls His First Disciples
16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17 “Come, follow me,” Jesus said, “and I will send you out to fish for people.” 18 At once they left their nets and followed him.
19 When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. 20 Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him.
Discussion:
• Have you ever gone fishing? What supplies do you take with you?
• What did the disciples use to fish?
• What did Jesus mean when he asked the disciples to fish for men? What tools did they need to fish for men? (they needed their words and actions as nets)
• How can we be fishers of men(all people) in our lives?
Activity: There is a game you can play called "Fishers of Men." You will need a single die or you can use a virtual die by clicking HERE. This is a teamwork game, so there is no one winner. The point is to cast your nets onto all the disciples before all the fish have been caught. Take turns rolling the dice. Click and drag a net from the fishing boat to the matching number on either a disciple or a fish. Have fun fishing for men(all people)!! You will have to have a google account to play the game, because it is a google slide. Email tmreichley@gmail.com with any questions.

Closing Prayer: The Lord's Prayer
Our Father
Who art in Heaven
Hallowed be thy Name,
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those Who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
And the power, And the glory,
Forever and ever. Amen.
